Board of Canvassers Certifies Cornel West to Appear on November Ballot
Board of Canvassers decision comes after Michigan judge ruled this weekend against Secretary Benson’s voter suppression efforts
The Fair Election Fund Senior Advisor Doug Collins released a statement applauding the Michigan Board of Canvassers’ decision to certify Cornel West to appear on the November ballot.
“In a win for election integrity and voting rights, the Michigan Board of Canvassers has approved Cornel West to appear on the November ballot. But we know Democrats will stop at nothing to reverse our recent string of wins and suppress the voting rights of West supporters, so the Fair Election Fund stands ready to keep fighting for their rights. Our ads against Secretary Benson’s voter suppression efforts will remain up until ballots are printed and we will not rest until we achieve an irreversible victory.”
The Board of Canvassers’ decision comes after a Michigan judge this weekend struck down Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson’s failed attempt to disqualify West despite his campaign submitting far above the state’s required 12,000 signatures to be on the ballot.
The Fair Election Fund recently announced a six-figure paid media campaign targeting Secretary Benson for her efforts to keep Cornel West off the ballot in Michigan. The campaign includes TV ads, billboard trucks, and projections on buildings throughout Michigan with messages about how Secretary Benson is undermining the rights of thousands of voters who signed a petition to include their preferred candidate on the ballot.
The campaign will remain active this week to push back on the Democrats’ attempt to suppress the voting rights of West supporters with the Michigan Democrat Party’s emergency appeal of Saturday’s ruling and threatened appeal of the Board of Canvassers’ ruling.
BACKGROUND
- The Fair Election Fund is leading the investigation into ActBlue and the Biden-Harris campaign’s reported fundraising numbers. The probe found over 60,000 potential cases where individuals listed as small dollar donors on the Biden-Harris campaign’s recent FEC report did not recall making the donation that was listed in their name.
- The Fair Election Fund has turned over the data to five Republican Attorneys General who will continue investigating ActBlue’s suspicious reporting and its compliance with state laws.
- In July, The Fair Election Fund awarded $50,000 in bounties to whistleblowers with first-hand knowledge of voter fraud or election administration issues in Michigan, Connecticut, Georgia, and North Carolina.
The Fair Election Fund is a watchdog group that was formed in May and will spend over $5 million in 2024 to shine a light on fraud and abuse still occurring in our election system.
